What is a Gap Year?
(noun) An experiential semester or year "on," typically taken between high school and college in order to deepen practical, professional, and personal awareness.

What is the American Gap Association?
The American Gap Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit accreditation and standards-setting organization for Gap Years that is recognized as such by the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission. We continue to advance the field of Gap Years by pioneering research, advocating for better financial aid (and even access to FAFSA for a Gap Year), as well as serving as an information and advocacy hub for students, families, university admissions personnel, and educational counselors.  We also hold the title of Standards Development Organization for Gap Years as recognized by the US Department of Justice.
Gap Years are more than for students who aren't "ready for college." And while many bonafide Gap Year students are indeed either needing some academic recharge, most are simply wanting to be clearer about what they want from university and life.
Howard Thurman said: "Don't ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive and go do it, because what the world truly needs is people who have come alive."

Advocating for Gap Year education through the meaningful accreditation of safe & quality organizations, access to financial aid, research, & resources for Gap Year families.
