MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the Monterey Institute of International Studies
BA in Asian Studies from Bard College
I have worked as an education consultant for nearly a decade. In this role, I work closely with high school students during the college application process, helping them build college lists, brainstorm, draft, and revise college application essays, fill out applications, and navigate the scholarship and financial aid processes. I also counsel students on summer programs and academic opportunities throughout their high school careers.
During my career, I have helped students with a wide variety of academic interests gain admission into top-tier universities and colleges across the country. Colleges where my students have gained acceptance include Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, the Universities of California, the University of Southern California, the University of Texas, and the University of Michigan, among others.
In addition to my work as an education consultant, I have taught English as a second language for twenty years. After earning my Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, I moved to Japan where I taught English at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, and later moved to Oaxaca, Mexico where I taught English and education classes to undergraduate and graduate students.
My coaching philosophy focuses on providing students with the support and mentorship they need to reach their personal, academic, and professional goals. I focus on making sure that students feel heard and that they have a sense of ownership over their own college application process.
When working with students, I break the process down into manageable steps so that they don't become overwhelmed. By encouraging a sense of confidence and ownership, I help students present the best version of themselves in their applications.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling: exploring new places, learning new languages, and experiencing new cultures. I have also been spending time studying herbalism. For the last two years, I have taken classes at a local herbalism school owned by a dear friend and learned so much about a wide array of fascinating topics.
