Research Programs
Build Something Real. Put Your Name on It
College applications are stronger when students have done something genuinely independent — not just participated in school activities, but pursued a project of their own. LifeLaunchr offers two research programs through our partner Launch: Lumiere, for students who want to write a traditional academic paper, and Polygence, for students who want flexibility in what they produce or who are still figuring out their direction.
Lumiere Research Program
For students with a clear academic focus
Over 12 weeks, your student works 1:1 with a PhD fellow or postdoc from a top university to produce an independent research paper — with writing-coach support and publication-specialist sessions included.
What’s included:
– 15 sessions with a PhD mentor from Harvard, Yale, MIT, Columbia, Princeton, or Oxford
– 4 sessions with a writing coach to develop and polish the paper
– 4 sessions with a publication specialist (3 rounds of journal submissions)
– Optional recommendation letter from the research mentor
– Optional 3 units of post-baccalaureate credit from UCSD (additional fee)
1,400+ mentors across STEM, humanities, social sciences, and more.
Best for: Students who know what they want to research and want to write a traditional academic paper for publication.

Polygence Research & Passion Projects
For students who are exploring or want flexibility
Polygence starts with a Launchpad phase to help students find their direction, then pairs them with a PhD mentor to produce a completed project — in whatever form fits their interests best.
What’s included:
– Launchpad phase: 3 sessions with different PhD mentors to narrow down a topic
– 10 core sessions with a matched PhD mentor
– Flexible output: research paper, website, app, podcast, video essay, art portfolio, or more
– Showcasing support: help submitting to publications, competitions, or media outlets
– Optional recommendation letter from the mentor

Best for: Students still exploring their interests, or who want to produce something other than a traditional paper.

Startup Internships
A Real Internship. 1:1. Built Around Your Student
Through our partner Launch, LifeLaunchr offers an 8-week, 1:1 startup internship for high school students. Your student is matched with a real startup in their field of interest and works directly with a founder or senior team member on a meaningful, scoped project.
One important thing to know: The Ladder program you might find online is a group experience—multiple students working with the same company. What LifeLaunchr offers through Launch is fully 1:1: one student, one mentor, one project built entirely around your student’s interests and goals. That’s what accounts for the price.

Test-Prep Tutoring
Expert 1:1 Tutoring. Measurable Results.
LifeLaunchr partners with Launch to offer personalized 1:1 test-prep tutoring for the SAT, ACT, and AP exams. Every program begins with a diagnostic assessment so instruction is targeted from the very first session. Only 2% of Launch tutor applicants are accepted — and a Tutoring Coordinator manages scheduling and keeps parents and coaches informed throughout.
SAT Prep
Two Tracks:
- Score Boosting: For students with prior prep who are ready to push their score higher
- Foundations: For students just starting out — including help choosing SAT vs. ACT
Students typically see an average improvement of 200 points.
- Diagnostic assessment + personalized study plan
- Updated for the current Digital SAT format
- Full-length practice tests after sessions 4 and 8
- Progress reports shared with families at the same intervals
- 1–3 sessions per week

ACT Prep
Two Tracks:
- Score Boosting: For students with prior prep who are ready to push their score higher

AP Test Prep
Students typically see a 1-point improvement — the difference between a 3 and a 4, or a 4 and a 5 — which matters for both admissions and earning college credit.
- Practice Portal with adaptive diagnostics and full-length mock exams
- Subjects include: English Lit, English Language, US History, World History, Calculus AB/BC, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics 1, Computer Science, and more
- Launch recommends at least 5 sessions per AP subject
- Best started 5–8 weeks before May exams
